Frequently asked questions

What Flesch score should I aim for?

For general web content, 60–70 (plain English). Technical documentation: 30–50. Legal/academic: below 30.

How is grade level calculated?

Flesch-Kincaid Grade estimates the US school grade needed to understand the text. Grade 8 is readable by a 13–14 year old.

Does this work for non-English text?

It works best for English. Syllable estimation for other languages is approximate. Results are indicative rather than precise.
